New Library Spaces - Check them out!

Raise your hand if you’ve been in the library lately! Noticed anything new? As you move around the Armacost Library, you may notice a few changes. We’ve been working with great intention to create a space that is more welcoming and inclusive for everyone, encourages collaboration, allows for more accessible movement thru the space, supports people not just as students but as individuals, and helps to connect them with the many resources the library has to offer.

Let us take you on a virtual tour of the library, starting at the front entrance. As you come in, the large pillars and narrow gated entryway have been removed. Quieter flooring, soft seating and plants have been added, making it a place students will want to hang out. There’s plenty of outlets in this space for you to charge your devices, too. You may notice a display case in the corner – it's the future home of student curated exhibits and displays – from student organizations on campus to art classes and more.

Let’s continue around the second floor...

From the main entrance, turn left to enter the Little Library Lounge. A great place for residential & commuter students & staff, to heat up some food in the microwave or toaster oven or use the electric kettle to make a cup of tea or a cup noodle. Grab a magazine or browse the popular books collection to find your next fun read. A variety of accessible seating in this area makes it a great place to relax & recharge before you move on to your next class or study session.

If you head right from the lobby, you will enter the Library Game Nook. There is so much to do. Take a seat at the long table and grab a coloring sheet to de-stress in between classes. Meet up with some friends and play a board game. Our Games Collection debuted at the start of the fall semester. With more than 50 board & card games there’s plenty of options to choose from and you can play in the library or take them home. Also hosted in this space are our monthly craft corner events. Thank you so much to everyone who came to our Vision Board Craft event and National Coming Out Day Button Making day. If you can, we would love to see you at our Halloween Poster Painting craft activity on Tuesday October 24th from 3 6 pm. Be on the lookout for a game night in November.

Continue east into the area near current periodicals and you will see comfortable seating where you and your friends can lounge, chat and collaborate.

Take the stairs or elevator to the third floor and into the Irvine Map Room. We’ve removed lots of extra furniture from this space to provide more accessible pathways thru the room and give it a cozier feel.

Throughout all three floors of the library, we’ve updated call number/subject signs and added elevator and directional signage for some of our more popular meeting spaces.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this virtual tour of our evolving space and welcome you to drop in soon, whether it be to study, check out books or games, meet with a librarian to learn about library resources, attend an event, or just hang out.

Visit our website and follow us on Instagram and Facebook to find out about upcoming events in the Library Game Nook, read board game recommendations from library student workers, and to keep up to date on all the amazing things happening in the library as we continue to make the entire library a more welcoming and friendly space.

Walk this way!

Run DMC's and Aerosmith's hit "Walk This Way" goes something like this:

Now there's Arm' cost Li-bry that's gender non-binary
And we read anything we want
From Maia Kobabe to The Bluest Eye by Toni
And there's sure to be a little Anne, as in Frank

Whether you're familiar with the song or not, you're invited to ♫walk this way♫ toward the Armacost Library.  If you haven't stopped by recently, you'll be surprised by the new entrance.

You're probably used to our gated-community look...

... but

we

changed

a

few

things.

We hope you feel welcomed by our new entrance and appreciate the hard work that our Facilities Management team and their partners put into building this space.

So come on and
walk this way
walk this way
walk this way
walk this way
